Interface is proud of our role in delivering the facade to Waterloo Station’s new 130,000 square foot, three-level shopping complex in the former Eurostar terminal. The iconic building had been closed since Eurostar services moved to St Pancras in 2007.
Our innovative glass facades retained the creativity and imagination of the original toughened glass fin façade while adding functionality.
Accommodating the large movements of track bed and platform was a complex design challenge. The introduction of an intermediate floor allowed us to restrain the facade at midpoint as well as at the base.
We were able to salvage the original stainless steel castings connecting the glass fins and panes and incorporate them into the new design. These castings are also used on the frameless glazed shopfronts of the Waterloo Curve – a new pedestrianised street and outdoor terrace, lined with shops and cafes.
